Cheerless are a fresh four-piece shoegaze rock band from Hackney, East London, who have just unveiled their debut single, Heat. Slowdive's Simon Scott mastered the track after the band recorded and mixed it in their bedroom studio.
The band was formed in 2021 by a group of friends from Cambridge, who quickly became familiar faces on the London gig scene, and drew comparisons to modern bands such as Bdrmm, DIIV, and New Dad.
Heat is an excellent piece of vibrant and wistful shoegaze which harkens back to the early days of the genre and sounds from the late 1980s and early 1990s, recalling the melodiousness of Ride mixed with the grittier dynamism of Swerverdriver. The song serves admirably as a signature piece for the band's sound, displaying a new act which has a lot to offer in the current shoegaze scene.
