Anchor and Adjust is the second single and title track taken from the impending debut album from Melbourne synthpop duo, Syzygy. The song speaks about power, the difference between perceived notion and truth, and information control.
The duo created their new material during a three-month lockdown, and used the chance to try out different techniques and sounds, deviating possibly a bit from their customary synthpop style. Their new focus is on more direct bass-heavy synth instrumentals, combining their vitality with a more somber approach.
With an existential undertone in its theme, the song takes inspiration "from cognitive bias theory and the idea that once an anchor of belief is set, all subsequent understanding is then tied to that initial belief - rightly or wrongly."
