Mute the Charm, the impending album from the continually prolific Unwed Sailor, finds Jonathon Ford's songwriting returning to basics. Instead of the post rock experimental means which have been crucial aspects of the band's artistry in the past, Unwed Sailor acknowledge influences such as Seam, The Sundays, and Joy Division's instrumentation, and their sound feels far more uncluttered.
The new single, Mais Oui, is Ford's ode to the Manchester scene of the late eighties and early nineties, a period he soaked up as a kid who grew up in Tulsa, OK. A very melodic track, Mais Oui is a bright indication of what Mute the Charm is about as a whole.
Mute the Charm will be out on February 10th, 2023 on Spartan Records.
