The anticipated debut album from Ireland's M(h)aol, Attachment Styles, will be available on February 3rd, 2023 via TULLE Collective and Rough Trade Publishing. The band's latest single, Therapy, is a witty song which tackles some very serious subjects.
"I wanted to write Therapy as a light-hearted addition to the album, dealing with a very real subject matter," vocalist Róisín Nic Ghearailt comments on the track. "It came from a conversation I had with a friend who was talking about a loved one not turning up to therapy, even though they were why she was in therapy, and I was thinking about people in our lives who are the reason we go to therapy and how we can often heal in spite of them."
The album Attachment Styles is about gender fluidity, ability to heal, and social connection. The theory of attachment styles, which examines the influence society and inter-familial relationships have on how we connect to one another, served as the overarching theme for Róisin's lyrics.
Bassist Jamie produced, mixed, and mastered the album in a small room with no headphones, few overhead mics, and only a PA for the vocals in order to capture the live aspect.
M(h)aol have been hand-chosen by Shellac and Gilla Band as supporting act, and performed at Latitude, Green Man, Primavera, and End Of The Road Festivals. Prior to their headline tour of the UK, they will tour for Independent Venue Week after being recently confirmed for SXSW.
