Belfast rising band Chalk announce the released of their debut EP, Conditions, and introduce it with new track Asking, paired to a very well made accompanying video, directed by the band's own Benedict Goddard.
The new track is an intense and sharp number, with frequent collaborator Chris Ryan (NewDad, Enola Gay, Just Mustard) once again handling production responsibilities.
Vocalist, Ross Cullen, comments: “It’s a reaction to feelings of ours that look at the past and a longing for others who aren’t in your life anymore. How we grow as people and those we leave behind as a result. We wanted Asking to follow the recollection of someone whose memories are fading when trying to remember about someone in the past.”
Reinforcing the band's unnerving emergence, Asking upholds Chalk's broader cinematic themes. The song achieves a kind of intensity that is pretty striking and has its own identity by fusing a post punk edge with an electronic approach.
Chalk are Ross Cullen (vocals), Benedict Goddard (guitar, synth), Luke Niblock (drums).
