Since La Vie En Rose, the second track by Down The Lees composed and recorded amidst the pandemic, delves into the inner world of Edith Piaf's troubled stardom, and eventual downfall.
Exhibited as a solo performance by Laura Lee Schultz, Since La Vie En Rose creates a brooding ambiance in a natural and expansive manner, and explores the psychological hardship faced by musicians; the devastating inclinations, and self-sabotage.
Edith Piaf was one the worried souls and a tormented artist herself, and her life story is ultimately characterized by these themes.
The track was recorded in the Okanagan Valley. Laura took online drum lessons from William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate), to perfect the drum parts. The track was mixed by Jesse Gander (Brutus, Japandroids, White Lung) of Raincity Recorders, and mastered by Blake Bickel (Dynamic Sound).
