Unconventional band Sprain take their minimalist slowcore approach to even more experimental territory on their highly anticipated full length, The Lamb As Effigy or Three Hundred And Fifty XOXOXOS For A Spark Union With My Darling Divine, set to be released on September 1st, 2023 through The Flenser. The album's opening track, Man Proposes, God Disposes, is a fantastic display of their unique style.
Blending elements of slowcore, avant-garde noise rock, and post rock nonconformity, the new song stands out with its chaotic instrumentation and the frenzied yet poetic spoken word delivery. The recording process of The Lamb As Effigy was fraught with challenges which almost jeopardized the album's completion.
Sprain faced numerous trials during the recording process, with a series of unfortunate events which seemed to place the album in a state of uncertainty. These issues included lineup changes, rescheduled sessions, and a critical electrical failure at the studio during the final moments. The mixing process required the organization of several years' worth of material across four separate studios, while the album's recording pushed the members of Sprain to their physical limits. These difficulties led the band to seriously consider abandoning the project altogether on multiple occasions, still, the album became a reality; a nearly two-hour work which serves as an aural equivalent to the human experience itself.
