Brooklyn-based post punks, The Vacant Lots, return with their minimalist aesthetic and grabbing sound coming together to produce a gripping and memorable result. The band have announced their fifth studio album, Interiors, and shared a video for the lead single, Amnesia.
The band's Jared Artaud comments on Amnesia: "It’s about dealing with duality and integrating the conflicting feelings within a relationship. It’s about feeling dissociative and getting burned by the fire. Then coping with how this inevitably leads to the dissolution of the relationship. This is a mantra for all the songs on the album."
Interiors is set to be one of The Vacant Lots' darkest works yet, and its first reveal confirms that expectation. The new song effectively merges the band's inspirations from the cutting edge of post punk, forward thinking electronic music, synthpop, new wave, and art punk, and showcases the band operating at their peak of creativity and imagination.
Amnesia is released alongside a video created by Alexander Schipper, starring model and actor Mateen Ismail. Artaud comments on the video: “Alex Schipper is a master of taste. We worked together on some videos for our last album Closure. He’s a great artist to collaborate with and really gets our minimalist aesthetic. A mantra for the band is ‘through darkness, light.’ Alex translated that beautifully in the Amnesia video featuring Mateen Ismail, who really completed the vision.”
For their upcoming full length, The Vacant Lots team up again with Maurizio Baggio (The Soft Moon, Boy Harsher) on mixing duties, who also worked on the band’s last two albums, Closure (2022) and Interzone (2020).
Interiors will be out on October 13th, 2023 via Fuzz Club.
