The anticipated debut EP, Manic, by punk rockers DOWNGIRL, is set to release in full on September 22nd, 2023. Their latest single and accompanying video, Boys, takes a direct stance against the long-standing history of violence propagated by cisgender men. The band employs a somewhat more light-hearted approach to satirize damaging behaviors, contrasting the empowering message conveyed in the track's accompanying music video which highlights the LGBTQIA+ community.
Marguerite Lorraine Walsh directed the video, with Dan Knott as the director of photography. The clip which comes with Boys effectively contrasts its underlying theme by serving as an uplifting homage to authenticity and determination.
Talking about the new EP, the band's own Lou Harbidge comments: "The title, Manic, was lifted from our single of the same name. We chose it as it encapsulates our state of being when the band was in its infancy. This EP is a diary, charting our progress from our beginnings in the bedroom when we were physically separated to now, being in each other's bloody pockets!"
