Industrial legends, Einstürzende Neubauten are back. On April 5th, 2024, the band will release their new double album Rampen (apm: alien pop music), and have shared Ist Ist, the first single.
Since the mid-eighties, Einstürzende Neubauten have been engaging in live experimentation they refer to as 'Rampen': public improvisations with open developments and outcomes, acting as gateways to uncharted territories. The recordings of these Rampen sessions, conducted during the encore of their final Alles in Allem tour in 2022, now form the foundation of their latest album.
Rampen (apm: alien pop music) represents a creative path for parallel universes and transitional realms. It simultaneously embraces a return to the band's roots while giving way to a novel artistic expression through intense bursts of noise juxtaposed with enigmatic, sometimes fragmented lyrics. It's a creative expression crafted for outsiders and the disenchanted. Notably, the minimalist artwork on the cover pays homage to the iconic design of The Beatles' White Album, hinting at a similar impact.
“It's based on the idea that the Einstürzende Neubauten is just as famous in another solar system as The Beatles are in our world,” Blixa Bargeld explains.
Ist Ist emanates an otherworldly and avant-garde quality, reminiscent of Einstürzende Neubauten's signature moodiness and edginess in their music.
“On the album, I found a few solutions and formulated things in ways I haven't formulated them before, because they were never so clear to me," Blixa Bargeld says. "I'm someone who believes you can achieve knowledge through music. It's always been that way. I follow the conviction. I'll find something in the music that I didn't know before. And sing something that I didn't know. Something that turns out to be true. Or, to take this down a notch, something that at least has meaning.”
