Rotations is the new single from Immersion, part of the project's new, ongoing collaborative series, Nanocluster Vol. 2. The new track sees the project's core of Colin Newman and Malka Spigel joined by former Swans percussionist Thor Harris.
“The idea was to create a piece that would be in the American minimalist tradition that is very much Thor’s world,” explains Colin Newman.
“This gives the tempo and repetition which centre on the fast piano figure. Thor’s marimba and violin are so deeply within the structure it feels like we played it as an ensemble with [Holy Fuck drummer] Matt Schulz’s bells providing some sparkle. It’s like a piece of ‘orchestral magic’ produced by people who do not have access to an orchestra.
“We wanted to mirror that tempo and energy in the video which was shot in Austin, Brighton, Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto.”
Nanocluster Vol. 2 is released via swim ~ on June 14th, 2024.
