Dark dreampop artist Nicole Marxen returns with new single and video, Thorns, the title track from the artist's upcoming album, scheduled to arrive on August 9th, 2024. In Thorns, Marxen is in full dark mood mode, blurring the lines between dreampop, gothic pop, and shoegaze.
The title track explores Marxen’s personal experience with the lesser-known impulse disorder Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs). These behaviors entail unintentionally hurting the body and are frequently a traumatizing attempt at self-soothing.
Director Judd Myers comments on the video which comes with the song: “Channeling themes of cycles and compulsion, 'Thorns' is a liminal, giallo-tinged portrait about the transformation that arises in reuniting with what we’ve pushed into the dark.”
Producer Alex Bhore (Halo Infinite Multiplayer, Meow Wolf Grapevine) teams up with Nicole Marxen once more, as they create an auditory tapestry which delves into afflictions and our waning focus amid a deteriorating patriarchy.
