Backyard Ritual is a fresh act which came out of the ashes of the industrial punk band Pop. 1280. Bide My Time is their second single, a fine exploration of post punk, synthpop and darkwave sounds, and the last song written for their record, Small World.
"It started out as a drum machine loop and wasn't finished until the mixing stage of the record," the band reveals. "With producer Jonathan Schenke, Campbell built the song up from that loop by layering guitars and synths."
The song expresses an introspective contemplation on an estranged connection, blending separation with a glimmer of optimism that something which was lost might come back. The post punk wistfulness of the song does an excellent task of defining its concept's emotional distance as well as the ambiguity of the future, and the overall sound is highly emotive, and appears effectively carried out.
