Cell: Free People

Cell was a New York-based rock band that formed in 1990 and released two albums, multiple singles and EPs on Geffen Records' DGC subsidiary, as well as a single on the Ecstatic Peace label. Cell was caught up in the major label feeding frenzy, touring with bands like Sonic Youth and Pavement before ending abruptly in 1995. Their debut album sold over 70,000 copies, still, in the nineties music industry reasoning, that was insufficient to justify their label's support.

Free People is a newly recorded version of a song originally written in the early nineties and only performed live a handful of times. The band members decided to record the single in 2024 to promote two summer reunion shows, which will be the only performances they plan to do. The track comes with a video created by Cell.

The song, which is a melodic number with bluesy elements and a solid lo-fi rock foundation, defines the band's guitar-driven approach, and exhibits how much more they could have accomplished in the past if given the chance.
