Common Wounds: Broken Hands

Phoenix-based Common Wounds is a crushingly heavy post hardcore band set to release their debut full length, All Night Blood, on October 18th, 2024, via Protagonist Music. The album was recorded by Zachary Rippy (Power Trip, Wristmeetrazor), mixed by Scott Evans (Thrice, Samiam), and mastered by Carl Saff (Modern Life Is War, KEN mode).

Vocalist Ian Lanspeary comments: "The title 'All Night Blood' relates to the idea that the society and economic system we live in is unrelenting in what it takes from us to survive; as though we’re being constantly bled dry to live our lives."

The first single, Broken Hands, is an honest depiction of desolation, and finds the band utilizing their classic post hardcore influences in a rather straightforward manner. "The song is about how people in positions of power attempt to manipulate others to the point where they start to question themselves," describes Lanspeary.

"Our prime background is hardcore and we are still driven by the ethos and passion of hardcore," says bassist Matt Martinez. Martinez has been an important figure in Phoenix's underground scene since the nineties, when his band, Suicide Nation, played DIY venues alongside acts such as The Locust and released split records with Yaphet Kotto and Creation Is Crucifixion. He later formed Landmine Marathon, a death metal band which gained significant popularity beyond the Arizona scene.

Broken Hands carries an extensive emotional weight, displaying Common Wounds with the assurance of a band with far more experience and material under their belt, and firmly establishes them as one of the most exciting current post hardcore and noise rock acts.
