Death And The Maiden: Waratah

Waratah is part of the upcoming Uneven Ground, the third album from the Dunedin-based genre fusing dark trio Death And The Maiden. The album comes out in UK and Europe release on September 13th, 2024 on through the eclectic New Zealand label Fishrider Records in conjunction with UK label Occultation Recordings.

In New Zealand, a waratah is a black bitumen-coated steel fence post which can be found on all seven-wire fences, including electric fences. In this case, the waratah seems to represent a means of shielding the primary protagonist from danger.

Waratah sounds impeccable as it emphasizes the tension between conflict and preservation, and is a vibrant, intricate song with a lot of effective moodiness and dark dreampop characteristics.
