Fórn: Soul Shadow

Extreme metal band Fórn has released a new track, Soul Shadow, from their forthcoming album Repercussions of the Self. Clocking in at over eleven minutes, the song delivers an overpowering impact with its heaviness mixed with wonderfully implemented euphoric tones. Highlighted by the haunting, siren-like vocals of their newest member, Lane Shi Otayonii from Elizabeth Colour Wheel, the band appears to have adopted a fresh approach to their work, and the outcome is striking and unmissable.

Fórn has impressed the metal underground since their inception over a decade ago, still, the band went silent shortly after touring in support of their 2018 album, Rites of Despair. Their latest work and first new music since 2018 finds them all revitalized and marks a rather creative comeback for the band.

Fórn guitarist Joey Gonzalez comments: “We always intended for the band to progress beyond the ‘sludge’ nametag. We feel that this album accomplishes that mission while still keeping with our classic sound to please the headbangers."

Repercussions of the Self comes with a majestic quality. Gonzalez cites the influence of film composers Cristobal Tapia De Veer, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross, alongside the music of Massive Attack and Portishead, as key inspirations driving the album's search of new directions.

Repercussions of the Self was engineered and mixed by Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Misery Index) and mastered by James Plotkin (Sunn, Merzbow), and it comes out on October 18th, 2024 on Persistent Vision Records.
