Chief Broom revolves around the songwriting of Boise, Idaho-based multi-instrumentalist Shadrach Tuck, and features a rotating lineup of collaborators. Among these are guitarists William “Cheese” Cheeseman (Bitterment, Sly Moon Sutra) and Frankie Tillo (Thick Business, Frankie Tillo), along with drummer Max Voulelis (Porcelain Tongue) and keyboardist Jake Marchus (Frankie Tillo, Bitterment). The band's debut album, hidden in plain sight, was released in September 2023 via Mishap.
The album was completed in the aftermath of band co-founder TJ Tuck's passing. Friends, family, and bandmates came together to honor the artist's memory and the mark he left on the Boise music scene. hidden in plain sight features TJ's drumming and artistic vision throughout, blending in personal soundbites from TJ and Shad's childhood which give the record a deeply personal touch.
if only is a standout track from the album which carries an emotional weight with its beautiful lyricism and expansive slowcore approach, enhancing the project's reflective and sentimental atmosphere.
