Pillar of Light are set to release their new album, Caldera, on December 6th, 2024, via Transcending Obscurity Records. New track, Spared, is an early glimpse of the band's evolving sound; a nine-minute epic which delves deep into both sentimentality and sheer intensity.
Known for their melancholy-infused post metal, Pillar of Light balances crushing heaviness with rays of optimism amid the overarching darkness which characterizes their sound. Spared produces an engaging journey, moving from hauntingly melodic parts to explosive moments. The emotionally charged vocals cut through a wall of dense instrumentation, bringing a tough edge to the band's already compelling sound.
With the first couple of singles which came ahead of the full length release, Pillar of Light hints at an album of immense depth, one which explores the brutal weight of human suffering while simultaneously illuminating the resilience that rises from it. The band describes Spared: "The lone survivor of crusade-like mass murder finds purpose in exacting revenge, believing they're balancing an existential scale, but really just perpetuating a key facet of being human, violence begets violence until the end of time."
