Rat Champion is an alt-rock project steadily evolving under the creative direction of Jimi Finkbeiner and Jennelle Lynsey. With a foundation in grungy, guitar-driven rock, the band's music blends different textures and dynamics, focusing on themes of self-exploration, grief, and primal desires among other topics. The band's debut album, Burn It All, out through the eclectic label Mishap Records, marks a new chapter with the addition of Gary King, Dallin Kroon, and Erik Richtsmeier, expanding their lineup to a five-piece ensemble.
Burn It All conveys a moody and intense sound, with imminent comparisons to nineties alternative and bands like the Smashing Pumpkins. Jimi, the band’s primary songwriter, views the album as a total reset. Reflecting on his past mistakes, the artist explains: "I look back on the missteps and my old self and I just wanted to get rid of it all - to burn it away and just start something fresh without the baggage."
Flame Princess is one of the full length's focus tracks, and comes with a well made video. The song encapsulates the core sounds and themes of the album, offering a glimpse into the emotional and musical depth which defines the record.
