DOWNGIRL: HORSEGIRL / DIG

Australia's DOWNGIRL keep the spirit of femme punk alive with their latest release, HORSEGIRL / DIG, and its neon-drenched companion music video. With a fierce blend of nu-metal, punk, and nineties alternative, DOWNGIRL conjure the gritty punk energy of The Runaways, the metal edge of Girlschool, the grunge ferocity of Babes in Toyland, and the rebellious spirit of The Donnas. Their sound is a force of nature; loud, unapologetic, and unmistakably their own.

The band's latest double release, HORSEGIRL and DIG, hits hard. HORSEGIRL bursts forth with aggressive nineties alt-rock guitars, pounding drums, and vocals which channel unfiltered anger. Then comes DIG to pick up where HORSEGIRL leaves off, twisting the energy into something darker and vengeful, exploring the unsettling intersection of sex and violence.

The accompanying music video expresses the contrast and connection between the two tracks, celebrating the alt-girl culture of the nineties. It opens with the electric pink world of HORSEGIRL, drenched in nostalgic, hyper-stylized visuals, and shifts into the darker tones of DIG. The pink neon fades to a glowing green as the band is transported to a digital prison, echoing retro video game aesthetics.
