Brooklyn-based EBM and post punk artist Rare DM (Erin Hoagg) returns with a gripping new single and video, Skater Hits Me Harder, a hypnotic, sensuous track which delineates the thrill of a perfect first date, and the subtle seduction before things heat up.
"Skater Hits Me Harder is lyrically about banging someone and wanting to do it again, and about realizing that your last lover really sucked. But the feeling behind the song is that nothing is better than that first date kiss — someone holding your hand for the first time," Hoagg says. "When you don't know if the date is going well but you have butterflies and are kinda nervous but then they grab your hand and you make out against fences on the way back to your apartment."
With a rich assortment of vintage analog synthesizers and drum machines, Rare DM creates a sound both intimate and captivating; a kaleidoscopic fusion of dark, cinematic aesthetics and neon-drenched dance-pop. Rare DM's music draws from a broad palette of influences, including EBM, minimal techno, electroclash, darkwave and post punk, producing energy which feels hauntingly personal.
Continuing the introspective style of her earlier material while pushing into exciting new territory, Hoagg's work delves into profoundly personal and esoteric themes. Skater Hits Me Harder hints at a fresh chapter for Rare DM; one that is expansive, promising, and poised to reach even wider audiences.
