Formed in Austin, TX during the COVID lockdown, SKLOSS is the brainchild of American drummer and vocalist Karen Skloss (Moving Panoramas) and Scottish guitarist and vocalist Sandy Carson (Iglomat). The duo has announced their debut album, The Pattern Speaks, along with the release of its title track.
Coming out on March 7th, 2025, through Fuzz Club, the upcoming album was engineered and co-produced by Charles Godfrey (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Swans). The Pattern Speaks brings together a bold mix of heaviness, contemporary post metal, post punk, and shoegaze, resulting in a distinctive and genre-defying sound.
The first single hints at the album's expansive themes: “Traveler to traveler - The Pattern Speaks is a message in a bottle, a cosmic plea for assistance from the stars, space aliens, or non-human intelligence. It also hints at a way out of our self-made cycles of drudgery and inhumanity.”
SKLOSS’s sound took shape amidst a backdrop of isolation, with the duo surrounded by drums, amps, and a desire to play loud. Their practice sessions became a response to the rough world outside, evolving from free-form jams to fully realized compositions.
“Living next to the woods has something to do with it. We started to use music as an outlet, like most everyone during that time, we were so cooped up,” says Skloss.
