Two and a half years after the release of their debut album VOLAVERUNT, Bank Myna returns with an radiant live video for their track, The Sleep of Reason. Their intimate and cathartic performance showcases the band’s ability to blend atmospheric tension with explosive musicality. The track has been completely rearranged from the album version, involving heavy drums and presenting the band's loudest side.
The song starts with ethereal ambient sounds, producing an almost tangible atmosphere before erupting into a hypnotic maelstrom of motioned tension.
Filmed during a concert at the Supersonic Club in Paris on February 13th, 2024, the live clip transcends the typical concert recording, and invites viewers into a rich experience, where every note and gesture radiates intensity and emotion.
The Sleep of Reason draws its inspiration from the work of Spanish painter and engraver Francisco de Goya. While writing VOLAVERUNT, the band discovered Goya’s haunting engraving El sueño de la razón produce monstruos (The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters). The artwork, which depicts a man tormented by nocturnal creatures symbolizing inner demons, deeply resonated with the band. They borrowed part of its title for their track, finding a profound connection between Goya’s vision and their own atmospheric musicianship.
In their live execution, Bank Myna’s immersive artistry becomes contagious, enveloping the audience in a powerful, transformative experience. The band’s experimental approach shines with psychedelic intensity, blending spontaneity and natural fluidity to create a piece which is certainly distinctive.
