Design Flaws is the third track unveiled from Heavy Feelings' Anatomy EP, which the band independently released under their own Hoofbeats label. The new four-track EP blends elements of post punk, goth rock, trip hop, and no wave.
With its sharp production and rich instrumentation, Design Flaws stands out as a meticulously crafted piece, rooted in post punk and new wave. The track conveys deep sentimentality while exploring themes of inevitability, mutual devastation, and emotional dependence.
Of the new EP, singer Nadia Garofalo says: “While writing I was thinking a lot about feelings of not belonging, feeling like an extra limb in your own life. That can be so hard to contend with, but it could also be transformative, if you let it. I loved working with these songs, this project has really become a long-distance communication art piece. We have our different lives and time zones and yet manage to effectively collaborate and inform each other's process from a distance.”
The Anatomy EP was recorded across two locations; Altered States in Chicago and guitarist Ben’s home in Bristol. Mixing took place at Axe & Trap Studios in Somerset, handled by Ben Scott Turner (Part Chimp, Hey Colossus, Holy Scum, Wolfer). Drummer Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi, Bat For Lashes, Torres) contributed to the tracks Alright Go and Conveyor. The final mastering was completed by Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering.
