Osnova: Verity

LA shoegaze conjurers OSNOVA emerge once more from the mist with Verity, a mesmerizing standalone number which is quite ethereal and consuming, diving headfirst into the fragile threshold between reality and illusion.

Caroline McLaughlin’s ghost-lit vocals drift through a dense fog of textured guitars and driving rhythm, as the track unfolds like a lucid dream, seducing with its promise of escape, where the dream offers sanctuary and the waking world feels like the true hallucination.

‘Verity’ comes from the perspective of a struggle with mental health,” shares McLaughlin. “The narrator copes with a debilitating depression by escaping into the world of sleep. Much preferring the dream world to reality, the narrator starts to question which world is really their truth—or verity. Thus comes the narrator’s plea for the listener to allow them to stay in their preferred world as a desperate attempt to escape their unbearable woken realities.

Directed with the same spectral grace as the song itself, the accompanying video becomes an extension of the track’s dream logic.
